10 November 2012: The Veterans Writing Project

Posted: November 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

Really excited to announce that today the Veterans Writing Project launches its inaugural issue of its literary journal, The Review. Even more excited to announce that it contains my short story, “The Booze Rumor.”

The Veterans Writing Project is “… a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Washington DC. We provide no-cost writing seminars and workshops for veterans, active and reserve service members, and military family members.”

Organized and run by seasoned journalists and writers who are also combat veterans, it’s a new group that, in my own view, has enormous potential to tap into the largely unknown reservoir of veteran voices. If you’re a veteran, or if you know one, check this site out, support them in whatever way you can, and watch it grow. I’ll post notices and info here, too, as time goes on.

Besides “The Booze Rumor,” which is fiction, check out my other account of the Persian Gulf War, Into the Storm, here.

Also, today is the 237th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. To all my brothers (and sisters) out there, happy birthday and welcome home.

Hi, Phil. Been a lonnnggg time… (reminder: if you need it….we were in TBS together) Yesterday, I just came across the signed copy of “Enemy Within” that you sent to me with a personalized ltr dtd 10 Jan 2000. So, I ask, WHERE does the time go?! In the ltr you mentioned hopefully publishing “Into the Storm” and some quick research tells me you were successful. Congrats! I’d like to get a signed copy if I could. Do you have a website I can purchase from? Let me know…hoping you get this. Me, I retired fm the Corps back in Jan 2001 and remained here in the Raleigh NC area. It’s a great place to live. I’ve worked at Duke Univ since then and hope to retire (again) fm there in about 5 years or so. We’ll see. Anyway, would be great to hear fm you. Merry Christmas and a safe and blessed New Year to you and yours!

Mike, good to hear from you (again). No reminder necessary, btw. You should be able to link to Amazon from the “My Books” page to get a copy of “Into the Storm” (as well as the others).

Glad you’re enjoying life post-USMC. Raleigh is a great town to do so, from what I’ve heard.

      Semper Fi,
